Help us to turn Jarvis' dream into reality

Cummeragunja Dreaming

Our project plans to deliver an upgrade to the basketball court, playground and community gathering area at Cummeragunja.

Cummeragunja is an Aboriginal community in New South Wales, Australia, located on the Murray River. It was established in 1888 as a self-sufficient community for Yorta Yorta families who left the Maloga Mission due to strict rules and poor conditions. The community later became known for its historical activism, particularly the Cummeragunja walk-off in 1939, where residents left the reserve due to harsh conditions and lack of food. Today, it remains an active community, although it has faced recent challenges with infrastructure

Our project is inspired by Jarvis, a proud Yorta Yorta man who grew up at Cummeragunja. Growing up, some of Jarvis' favourite memories are from the time he spent playing basketball with his friends.

There are still many families living at Cummeragunja, with lots of young children. Like most of the other infrastructure at Cummeragunja, the basketball court and playground have fallen into disrepair.

Our dream is to rebuild the basketball court and playground, and add a yarning circle, to enhance community infrastructure and provide the kids of Cummeragunja can have a special place to hang out and play. Like Jarvis did.
